Union Membership Slides
Union membership declined in 2010, both nationwide and in Massachusetts, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In Massachusetts, the percentage of workers who are union members fell from 16.6 percent in 2009 to 14.5 percent in 2010. Nationwide union membership fell from 12.3 percent to 11.9 percent.
Nationwide, private sector union membership fell from 7.2 percent to 6.9 percent, and the public sector rate fell from 37.4 percent to 36.2 percent.
