The foreclosure numbers are in for 2010 and they don't look good, according to the latest data from Boston-based real estate tracker The Warren Group.
There were 12,233 completed foreclosures in the Bay State in 2010, up 32 percent from 2009. The 2010 total came close to nearing the 2008 peak, when there were 12,430 foreclosures statewide.
City by city, the numbers vary. In Worcester, for example, foreclosures actually increased 114 percent to 575 in 2010. Fitchburg's foreclosure numbers also jumped, increasing by 90 percent to total 232.
However, other communities bucked the statewide trend. Framingham's foreclosure total actually decreased by 4.9 percent to 155.
The Warren Group also reported that the number of foreclosure petitions, which are the first step in the foreclosure process, declined 14.3 percent to 23,933 in 2010. While that's good news, that decrease is in part due to banks putting a hold on foreclosures in order to get caught up on paperwork.
