So far, 19 companies have signed on to be founding partners of the Worcester Red Sox minor league baseball team, including Polar Beverages, MGM Springfield and Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
The terms of the sponsorship deals for 19 companies with the Boston Red Sox’ top farm team are not yet finalized, according to a list provided by the team.
So far, only Assumption College and insurer Fallon Health have publicly announced sponsorship deals with the team. Worcester manufacturer Polar Beverages has publicly pursued a naming rights deal for the Canal District stadium, although a final deal has not been announced.
Assumption College in Worcester was the latest to do so on Thursday, when college President Francesco Cesareo said the college will be one of 21 founding partners of the team.
However, one company does not yet want to be named and another has not yet agreed to a deal in principle.
According to the letter of intent signed by the team and city on Aug. 17, the Worcester Red Sox are guaranteed corporate sponsorships totaling at least $3.1 million annually for the first five years of baseball in Worcester.
If that amount is not reached, a private sector entity designated by the city will be forced to purchase tickets for home games at Polar Park equal in value to the corporate sponsorship deficit, according to the deal.
The 19 sponsors that can publicly be named:
1. Polar Beverages of Worcester
2. MGM Springfield
3. Berkshire Bank of Boston, which purchased Worcester’s Commerce Bank last year
4. Fallon Health of Worcester
5. Hanover Insurance Group of Worcester
6. Cooperative Credit Union Association
7. Spencer manufacturer FLEXcon
8. Springfield construction firm Fontaine Brothers, which has an office in Worcester
9. Natick developer Stonegate Group
10. Worcester Chamber of Commerce/Worcester Business Development Corp.
11. Country Bank of Ware
12. UniBank of Whitinsville
13. Atlas Distributing of Auburn
14. Worcester Telegram & Gazette
15. Tennessee insurer Unum, which has a building in Worcester
16. Downtown Worcester skyscraper Mercantile Center
17. Worcester manufacturer Table Talk Pies
18. Assumption College in Worcester
19. Holliston HVAC service provider Rodenhiser Home Services
The majority of the businesses are based in or around Worcester, but some come from the MetroWest area, including Holliston-based Rodenhiser Home Services, Marlborough-based Cooperative Credit Union Association and Natick-based real estate agency Stonegate Group.
Construction firm Fontaine Bros. joins the Western Massachusetts contingent along with MGM Springfield, although both already market or have a presence in Worcester.
Of the 19 named sponsors, 14 were engaged in sponsorship talks this summer, according to emails between the city and the team obtained by the WBJ.
Two notable sponsors mentioned in the summer then not included on the new pubic list are Westborough manufacturer Coghlin Cos. and UMass Memorial Health Care of Worcester.
Four sponsors -- Rodenhiser, Table Talk, Mercantile Center and Unum -- appear to have been late considerations as those companies weren’t included in the email discussions of potential corporate sponsors prior to the team’s Aug. 17 announcement of its intent to relocate to Worcester.
