Worcester Polytechnic Institute has hired Jacob E. Messier as its new executive director of alumni relations and Samuel K. Stewart as its new executive director of development operations and research.
In his new position, Messier will oversee volunteer recruitment, programs and special events, work with the WPI Alumni Association and build ties among students, staff and alumni.
Stewart will direct programs in advancement services, development research and donor stewardship, as well as overseeing the system for processing and reporting gifts.
Messier previously worked as a senior marketing and business development consultant at DoxStor Inc. in Worcester. Before that, he was marketing director at CAST Software in New York and Ounce Labs in Waltham and as an assignment editor at WBZ news in Boston. He also spent almost 10 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, managing public affairs teams.
Messier has a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Maryland and expects to receive an MBA from the University of Phoenix in February. He also graduated from the Defense Information School. He lives in Worcester.
Stewart spent the past 14 years at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, most recently as controller for the development office of the UMass Memorial Foundation. He has also held other finance management positions at nonprofit institutions.
Stewart received a bachelor's degree from Duke University in North Carolina and a MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He also has a graduate studies certificate in accounting from the University of Hartford. He lives in Holden.
