Two of the area’s newest breweries will be opening next month as craft beer continues to grow exponentially.
Purgatory Beer Co. is slated to open in a small building at the Linwood Mill site on Linwood Ave in Northbridge on Nov. 4, the brewery said on its Facebook.
“Hey, got plans for 11/4? Raking leaves? Picking apples? Well, we’ll be open and pouring fresh beer for the first time ever, so the leaves can probably wait. Doors open at 11:55 a.m.,” the brewery announced.
For the opening, the brewery will have four beers on tap, including a double IPA, two other IPAs and a chocolate milk stout, said co-founder Brian DiStefano.
“We’re going to celebrate the space, the mill, the town and all the effort everybody has put in,” he said. “We’re going to have a good time.”
The brewery's name comes from Sutton's Purgatory Chasm, a Blackstone Valley staple of hiking and rock climbing. Its beers will include mostly ales, IPAs, stouts and porters.
Another area brewery, Altruist Brewing Company in Sturbridge, will open sometime next month. The brewery, run by husband-and-wife team Bob and Nancy Bixby, is located in a Main Street building.
No date is set, but the brewery expects to open in a few weeks.
Amory's Tomb Brewing in Maynard is also expected to open soon, the company said on Facebook.
