It's not just Oprah and Ashton Kutcher that are tweeting nowadays. Execs are increasingly using the online micro-blog, according to a new survey.
Almost a third of executives surveyed by NFI Research of Madbury, N.H., reported that they are using Twitter for business purposes. Meanwhile, only 9 percent of managers said they're tweeting.
"It's clear that many in business take social networking seriously and are engaging to figure out ways to make it work for them," said Chuck Martin, CEO of NFI.
Overall, 18 percent of senior executives and managers use Twitter, according to the survey. Two-thirds of them use LinkedIn for business purposes, while 26 percent are blogging and 22 percent are drumming up new business on Facebook.
The survey also revealed that smaller companies are more likely to use social networking web sites for business services, with Facebook the clear favorite.
NFI Research surveys 2,000 senior executives and managers every two weeks and has been doing so for more than nine years.
