The golden triangle of opportunity in Central Mass.

Central Massachusetts's "Golden Economic Triangle" of Opportunity

The most important economic change related to Central Massachusetts region’s future success is the expansion of commuter rail and the new Mass Turnpike Route 146 exchange, both vital connections between Worcester, Boston and Providence – the new golden economic triangle of New England’s economy.  We now live in a global world. It is New England competing against the rest of the nation and world economy. Simply put, I would suggest we need to reach out and promote a more cooperative economic alliance between New England’s three largest cities in order to strengthen our own regional success.

Teamwork is the wave of the future so let’s consider for a moment promoting a Worcester, Providence, and Boston regional approach to economic development.  All three areas are good places to live, to commute to or from, and a good place in which to locate a business.  This tri-city location has now been improved and connected by way of a wonderful new rail connecting Worcester and Boston and upgraded road system connecting Providence with Worcester.    The three regional cities clearly bring unique and dynamic strengths to each other.  The precedent has certainly been set with the North Carolina biotechnology research triangle and as a result, the positives surely speak for themselves while still giving their adjacent cities individual distinction and identity. And, we have already established a strong “biomedical corridor” in Massachusetts anchored by Boston/Cambridge and Worcester with all points in between which has distinguished us with the world wide reputation of being the life science epicenter of the world.

Our own region’s emergence in the healthcare, biotechnology, medical device and biomedical fields are logical economic strengths to build upon especially with the life sciences industry growing in such a big way. Central Mass has an excellent college consortium, top rated Health Care system, Biotechnology Research Park, Medical School, Pharmacy College, and Veterinary School as major academic, medical, and research centers of strengths to offer the three city alliance.

The movement of people and goods within this economic triangle is rapidly growing every day linking all three cities like never before. Promoting this golden opportunity recognizes this positive change and uses it as the effective economic development tool that we all need to further succeed as we compete in this new world economy. We need to get out in front of economic change.  And now might just be the time to capture this golden economic opportunity.
