Pennsylvania-based machinery maker TechPrecision Corp. is working to diversify its operations at its Ranor, Inc. business in Westminster to adjust for the loss of a customer that provided more than half the plant's business.
The company said in a statement that its strategy for Ranor in 2012 involves targeting the nuclear industry and companies that produce synthetic sapphires for LED lights. It said Ranor now has a fully operational facility for making nuclear-certified products and expects to get its first order for large-scale nuclear industry assembly within the first quarter of 2012. It said Ranor will also complete its initial sapphire product production in the same period.
TechPrecision has said a customer - which it did not name - that accounted for about 55 percent of Ranor's business has moved its operations to China. TechPrecision itself has been increasing the capacity of its Chinese division, Wuxi Critical Mechanical Components Co. Ltd., to serve customers in China.
TechPrecision had a total of 171 employees as of March 2011, with the majority employed at the Westminster manufacturing facility.
