Study: Like Moms, New Dads Seek Balance

Researchers at the Boston College Center for Work and Family have released a study that argues that employers can benefit from offering "family friendly workplace culture and policies."

The report is entitled "The New Dad: Exploring Fatherhood Within a Career Context," and is a study of middle-income, first-time fathers. It was released this week to coincide with Fathers Day.

The study finds that the self image of most fathers increases positively at work after having children. It also finds that fathers are not expected to reduce their workloads or career aspirations as a result of their new responsibilities at home.

New fathers say they are supported by their bosses when it comes to schedule flexibility, but most do not arrange for a formal flexible work arrangement.
