Study: Employers Willing To Pay For Worker Relocation

It might be time to widen that job search a bit.

Nearly one-third of employers say they're willing to pay for workers with valued skill sets to relocate and take jobs, according to a nationwide survey by CareerBuilder, an online career search firm.

Of those employers surveyed, 32 percent said they would be willing to pay to relocate new employees this year. Job seekers appear more eager, with 44 percent saying they would be willing to relocate.

One in five workers who found new jobs after being laid off in the past year relocated.

CareerBuilder said a competitive job market that has job seekers looking beyond their own backyards, coupled with employers struggling to fill certain positions, could result in more compensation this year for worker relocation costs.

"Workers have had to expand their job search geographically and employers in need of hard-to-find, skilled talent have had to recruit across state lines," said Matt Ferguson, CareerBuilder's CEO.

The firm found that employers are most willing to pay relocation expenses to fill engineering, information technology, business development, sales and financial positions.
