St. Vincent Nurses To Protest

St. Vincent Hospital's nurses plan to picket the hospital this afternoon to draw attention to their contract dispute with hospital management.

The nurses, who are represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, say they are seeking contract language that would improve staffing ratios. They say the current staffing situation leads to unsafe conditions.

In addition, the nurses say they want an improved pension benefit.

The hospital responded to the nurses' planned boycott with a statement defending its safety and quality record and arguing that the picket is less about care at the hospital than about the MNA's ongoing effort to get the state to pass a law mandating staffing ratios.
