Mere weeks after being named executive chef of SONOMA Restaurant in September, Michael Chandler has confirmed he is no longer with the restaurant located in Worcester's Beechwood Hotel.
Back in Boston where he previously served as executive chef at Grill 23 & Bar and at the now-closed Top of the Hub restaurant, Chandler is meeting with restaurants and he searches for a new position, he said.
SONOMA Restaurant did not return WBJ’s request for comment on Chandler’s departure or plans for a replacement executive chef.
When SONOMA announced Chandler’s hiring on Sept. 11, its owners said they looked forward to remaking the restaurant using his expertise.
“Worcester’s growth presents a perfect time to reinvent SONOMA Restaurant by reintroducing it to the Worcester market with an acclaimed Chef,” Dr. Charles Birbara, SONOMA owner, said in the Sept. 11 press release announcing Chandler’s hire. “Chef Chandler brings a breath of fresh air to Worcester, and we are confident that his culinary talents, along with his expertise in French bistro-style cuisine, will bring yet another elevation to the Worcester restaurant scene.”
The restaurant inside the Beechwood Hotel was previously named CERES, but changed in 2017 when acclaimed chef Bill Brady moved his farm-to-table restaurant Sonoma from Princeton to the Worcester space after the hotel owners bought the CERES space. Brady sold the SONOMA name to the owners of the Beechwood in 2019, and he now owns and operates Brady’s restaurant in Leominster.
