Small Biz Confidence Dips In March

Small business optimism fell in March, according to the latest measure by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).

The NFIB's Optimism Index fell 2.6 points from March to February. However, March's level was still well above the measures during the same months in 2010, 2009 and 2008.

The index is comprised of 10 sub-indexes, including plans to increase employment, make capital outlays and increase inventories. In the case of hiring, 18 percent of those surveyed said they plan to increase employment. That's up one percentage point from the previous month. Another 6 percent said they plan to reduce their workforce.
