Rui Araujo always wanted to be an architect and as a local branch manager of ABC Supply, he's built his career from the ground up. He joined the Wisconsin-based company in May, and before that, worked for various building supply firms including Mastic/Alcoa Home Exterior as a district sales manager. In this Q&A, he talks about his new role and what type of local restaurant he's yet to find.
Vital Stats

How are you settling in at your new office?
Very well. I am still getting to know everyone - our customers and the extended ABC family of the district and regional staff, but it has been a great transition. I left a very good job with an industry leader to join ABC, another industry leader, and it has proven to be a great decision.
What challenges do you see in your new position?
Heading into the winter, the challenges I see are bringing in new business while maintaining our existing accounts and getting to know the people I am working with better: learning their strengths and weaknesses and helping them to be the best they can be.
What's your favorite thing about Central Massachusetts?
The best thing about Central Massachusetts would be Auburn and all of the surrounding communities - their diversity and sense of pride from town to town. From a logistic standpoint, ABC Supply has great access to all the major highways, allowing us to better serve our customers.
How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up doing?
When I was in high school I imagined being an architect, so working for ABC Supply and dealing with builders, remodelers and architects has kept me close to what I envisioned - but from a different perspective.
How far is your commute to the office?
50 minutes
What's the best way to keep your energy and motivation up when you're having a long day?
I always remind myself why I am here -my family. Also, I do not want to let down my fellow associates or ABC Supply.
Where's the best place to get lunch near your new location?
I am still scouting out local restaurants but have quickly become fond of Squires and Periwinkles. But if anyone has suggestions for some good local sushi places I am open to try them.
Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
After work I prefer to unwind just by staying home and spending time with my three daughters and my wife. Some of my free time is spent coaching my daughters' basketball teams.
What's on your to-do list for the next couple of days?
I'll be working on my sales budgets for the New Year and developing strategies to bring in new business in 2011. I'll also be calling customers who will be going on the ABC Supply incentive rewards trip to finalize last-minute details.
