AMSC Gets $10M Parts Order

Devens-based wind power company American Superconductor Corp. will ship $10 million worth of electrical control systems to an offshore wind farm in South Korea.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. of South Korea ordered the parts, which will be used to control power production on the three megawatt wind turbines. It’s the seventh order AMSC has received for wind turbine electrical control systems in the last year.

AMSC said offshore wind power generation is expected to skyrocket in the coming years. While offshore production only accounts for two gigawatts of the world’s 158 gigawatts of wind power systems installed now, it is expected to increase to 104 gigawatts by 2025. One gigawatt equals 1,000 megawatts.
