Raffaele Potami, Cold Chain Technologies, Holliston

Raffaele Potami recently joined Holliston-based Cold Chain Technologies as a senior mechancial engineer. He'll be working on special research and development projects for the company, which is a global supplier of temperature control packaging and thermal testing. Potami certainly has the educational background for R&D. He's a postdoctoral researcher with a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Here, he talks about the laws of physics and the fact that he planned on having a career far from the lab and in the clouds.

Q. How are you settling in at your new office?
It is a very welcoming environment and it is easy to integrate with the rest of the R&D department.

Q. What challenges do you see in your new position?
The application of thermo fluid dynamics analysis to thermal shipper design is a new methodology and as with any new methodology it requires lots of exploration, observation and analysis.

Q. How different is this job from your previous position?
There are few differences with respect to the final product under analysis, but the governing laws of physics are essentially the same.

Q. How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up doing?
Roughly 30 thousand feet ... I imagined myself as a military or commercial pilot.

Q. Where's the best place to get lunch near your new location?
