Dr. Lisa Price-Stevens is medical director and vice president of medical affairs at Worcester-based Fallon Health.

Q: Why did you choose the health care field?

A: As a child of a community health nurse, I was exposed to health care at a very early age. I have always been intrigued with the human body, but most importantly how I could assist others in achieving their wellness goals.

Q: What makes you excited to go to work every day?

A: I see opportunities in today's challenging health care environment, especially for providers, payers and patients to collaborate. My colleagues and I are working as part of the solution in many ways, including coordinating care, especially for vulnerable populations who benefit from this approach.

Q: What is one of the biggest issues facing the current health care system?

A: Change is rarely easy, and there are so many complexities involved in health care reform. I believe as a nation we can and will have high-quality, affordable care for all. However, it will take time and a dedicated effort on the part of many stakeholders.

Q: How has your field changed since you first started?

A: Health care has expanded beyond the patient-physician relationship. There's (the Internet), pharmaceutical companies, electronic medical records (companies), government, payers and many others who are now a part of (the picture). Most of the new voices have been beneficial but many doctors miss the past simplicity of health care.
