Proofread That Resume

More than 75 percent of senior executives say one or two typos on a resume will land that resume in the trash, according to an Accountemps survey.

Accountemps, a temporary staffing firm for the accounting and finance industry, said typos are easy to overlook, but can be avoided. Forty percent of executives surveyed said it only takes one resume error to disqualify a candidate from consideration.

Job seekers should have family, friends or mentors proofread resumes, walk away from the resume for a while before proofreading it, print a copy to proofread and read the resume aloud, the firm said.

As part of the survey, executives shared some notable resume typos, including "have a keen eye for derail," "I'm attacking my resume for you to review" and "Graphic designer seeking no-profit career."
