Producer Price Index Up In February

The price of finished goods in the United States rose 1.6 percent in February, the largest jump since a 1.9-percent increase in June 2009.

The biggest drivers of the increase to the producer price index were food and energy, which increased by 3.9 percent and 3.3 percent respectively.

February was the fifth straight month where energy prices rose. The rising price of gasoline, which is now averaging $3.48 for a gallon of regular at pumps in Massachusetts, was the primary cause.
