Power Gradually Being Restored After Storm

Utility crews continue to work toward restoring power to Central Massachusetts businesses and homes after last weekend's snowstorm.

National Grid said about 134,000 customers - most of them in Worcester, Middlesex, and Hampden counties - remained without power this morning. That's less than one-third of all its customers who lost power.

Meanwhile, NStar said about 3,000 of its MetroWest customers remained without power as of this morning. But the utility expects all power to be restored by tonight.

In Worcester, students in the city's public school system returned to classes today.

Also, President Obama has signed an emergency declaration for most of Massachusetts, including Worcester, Middlesex, and Norfolk counties. That paves the way for federal disaster aid and authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster relief efforts.
