The Worcester Red Sox on Saturday will launch a fully automated retail center at Polar Park called WooSox Market, according to a Friday press release.
The baseball team is partnering with Standard AI, a San Francisco tech company specializing in automated retail, to open the shop.
Using robot-powered, ceiling-mounted cameras and the cloud, the technology associates each shopper with the items they pick up, so shoppers do not have to stop at a checkout counter to pay. Individuals use Standard AI Checkout app to load payment information and view their receipt after leaving the store.
“WooSox fans just enter the store, grab the items they want, and tap their phone to walk out,” the press release read.
The technology does not use facial recognition, per the announcement.
The store will be officially opened on Saturday at the Inaugural WooSox Winter Wonderland.
