The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation Inc. has donated $15,000 to Old Sturbridge Village for educational outreach programs. The programs include History on the Road, which brings costumed educators to local elementary schools. This is the second year in a row that the foundation has awarded the grant to the organization.
Whitinsville-based UniBank has donated $2,500 each to seven food pantries in the bank's service area, for a total of $17,500. The donations were part of a celebration after the bank reached $1 billion in assets. Staples brought the Jumpstart Read for the Record program, in which preschool children read the same book on the same day all over the world, to MetroWest and Worcester this year. The office retail giant donated $35,00 to the organization, which focuses on language, literacy and social skills for preschool children.
