The Framingham Co-operative Bank Charitable Foundation has awarded $2,500 to Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly in support of Shillman House, a non-sectarian, 150-unit affordable housing complex for seniors. The complex is now under construction on Edmands Road in Framingham. The Postal Service and Chris Sawyer, creative director of the Boston Ralph Lauren store, recently collaborated on a window display mural highlighting stamp art at the Denholm Building on Main Street in Worcester. Enlarged stamps feature subjects including Edgar Allan Poe, Mother Teresa, an animal rescue scene, and Scouting. Daniel O'Neill, Worcester's postmaster, and Jill C. Dagilis, executive director of Worcester Community Action Coalition, were also instrumental in putting the display together.
Southbridge-based Savers Bank recently awarded four grants worth $1,910 each to community organizations to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the bank's 1910 founding. The bank is awarding 12 such grants altogether. The four recent grants were for the Southbridge Cops ‘n Kids Program, Apple Tree Arts in Grafton, Project Smile in Hopedale and the Uxbridge Elderly Connection. UMass Memorial Health Care received the Circle of Excellence award for having raised more than $1 million for the Central Massachusetts Start Heart Walk since 2003. The award was presented at the 2010 event's awards reception at Coral Seafood in Worcester. Five local businesses donated a defibrillator for the Holliston Police fitness room. Colantonio Inc., Dahlstrom and Co., Nick's Central Garage, and Renewable Energy, all of Holliston, and R.P. Marzilli Landscaping of Medway helped pay for the donation, and MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham helped them select the equipment.
