Waltham-based PerkinElmer Inc. said it plans to establish a new research center at its recently acquired Caliper Life Sciences facility in Hopkinton.
The company said the center will be called the Personalized Health Innovation Center of Excellence. Researchers from PerkinElmer’s chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology and reagent research and development teams will collaborate in the center, which aims to create new technologies that would enable scientists to develop and commercialize diagnostic and therapeutic products.
The center will eventually have 350 scientists working in it, the company said.
Specific applications for research will include genomics, imaging, biomarkers and biotherapeutics. Plans also call for a demonstration laboratory for customers and collaborators.
The company, which did not say when the center would be open, has centers of excellence at a number of its other facilities around the world.
