Westborough-based Paid Inc., which offers online shipping calculation and shopping software, has been awarded a new patent that enhances third-party fulfillment options on its existing software applications, the company said.
The new patent has been added to the company's existing portfolio, titled “Method and System for Improving Online Auction,” which Paid Inc. has been building since 2002. All patents relate to the real-time calculation of shipping, insurance, and taxes online, according to the company.
"PAID is the leader in the area of online shipping calculators, setting the standard for how buyers and sellers conduct commerce online," CEO Austin Lewis said in a statement. "We are continuing to work on new tools and enhancements to our product suite as well as expanding our patent portfolio and protecting our intellectual property."
News of the new patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) comes after Paid Inc. filed a lawsuit against eBay Inc. in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts in December, alleging patent infringement.
