Real estate firm National Retail Properties of Orlando, Fla. purchased for $14.4 million the land and building housing the BJ's Wholesale Club on Route 20 in Auburn.

The publicly traded real estate investment firm has more than 3,000 properties in 48 states, including seven in Massachusetts. Its top tenants are 7-Eleven and Mister Car Wash, and BJ's Wholesale Club is a tenant at 11 of its other locations.

The retail store, which stands in a plaza with a Home Depot just west of the interchange with I-395, was sold by another real estate investment firm, Gershman Properties of Los Angeles.

BJ's will continue operating the store.

The 100,000-square-foot BJ's was built in 1992. It was last assessed by the town for $9.2 million.

Not necessarily a good omen. I’d like to see BJs concentrate on bringing their own land lord. These types of transactions ultimately aim to squeeze more cash from the tenants, which then gets passed along to the consumer as higher prices. Mstewart.
