Olympia Sports to close five Central Mass. stores

Olympia Sports has begun the closing sales of 76 stores with $44 million in inventory, including five in Central Massachusetts, as the acquisition of the Maine company by sports retailer JackRabbit moves forward.
As part of the deal, Olympia Sports will maintain 75 stores under its name. However, 76 stores, including those in the Auburn Mall, Franklin Village Shopping Center, Timpany Plaza in Gardner, the Mall at Whitney Field in Leominster and the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough will be closed.
Closing sales at those stores began Friday.
