Office Holiday Parties, The Debate Continues

We reported in the WBJ Daily Report that a recent poll found that companies think it's worthwhile to spring for a holiday party, but in a similar survey, respondents said they'd gladly give up the party if it meant more money in their pockets.

Randstad, a staffing firm, found that while holiday parties are generally viewed positively by employees, 93 percent said they'd rather get a bonus than have a party.

Almost a third of respondents, 29 percent, said it is inappropriate to host work parties in the current economic climate.

Workers' attitudes about office parties go hand-in-hand with results from the rest of the survey, which suggest that only about half of employees plan on giving gifts at work and that shopping online during work hours is the biggest mistake an employee can make during the holiday season.
