Kingstown, R.I.-based closeout retailer Ocean State Job Lot has purchased its building in the Whitinsville section of Northbridge.
According to the Registry of Deeds, Ocean State (OSJL) purchased the property on Providence Road for $2.5 million on Dec. 28.
John Barbato, the company's director of real estate, said OSJL had initially leased the property from Wal-Mart, which had a store there, beginning about five years ago. The property was later purchased by The Grossman Cos. Inc. of Quincy, who sold the nearly 4-acre property to OSJL.
Barbato said the company, which has about 40 employees at the store, typically tries to purchase the buildings where it's located, so when Grossman decided to sell the property, OSJL was interested.
He said there's excess space in the 62,000-square-foot building and that the company is seeking tenants, "something that's complementary to ourselves and to the shopping center and the community."
