NJ acai bowl restaurant to be second commercial tenant at key Canal District development

A second tenant has been locked in for retail space at the new mixed-use apartment building directly across the street from the Polar Park baseball stadium in Worcester.

Playa Bowls, a New Jersey-based franchise offering fruit-infused food items including acai bowls, smoothies, and juices, will join Whitinsville-based UniBank as the two announced commercial tenants at The Revington, according to a promotional email from real estate firm Kelleher & Sadowsky Associates on Tuesday.

Founded in 2014 by two Jersey Shore natives, Playa Bowls has since expanded to more than 200 franchise locations across 22 states, according to the company’s website. The business has 11 Massachusetts stores, but its location at The Revington will be its first in Central Massachusetts.

Playa Bowls has undergone rapid expansion as of late, adding 54 shops in 2023 alone, according to a January press release.

With two of the seven commercial spaces in the building now with tenants, 14,418 square feet of space in The Revington remains available, including two spaces reserved for restaurants and three retail storefronts.

The Revington’s residential tenants, including some Worcester Red Sox players, began moving into the 228-unit building earlier this year. The building is the furthest along of the five planned commercial, residential, and hotel projects surrounding Polar Park from Boston developer Madison Properties. The tax revenue from those five developments are key in the City of Worcester’s plan to pay off the cost of the $160-million stadium using revenues from a district surrounding the stadium.

The Revington had 118 residential units available for lease as of Wednesday, according to an Apartments.com listing for the building.

Todd Alexander and David Cohen of Kelleher & Sadowsky Associates are leading leasing efforts for the commercial aspects of the building.
