Most employers in the Northeast are aware of generational issues in their workplace, but aren't taking action, according to a new survey by Right Manage, a division of the staffing firm Manpower.
Manpower reports that 78 percent of respondents said their organizations were implementing policies and procedures to address generational issues.
The survey also found three main obstacles preventing generations from working together:
- Communication across the generations (22%)
- Differing life priorities (18%)
- Work style (18%)
Joy McGovern, who authored a study connected with the survey, warned that understanding and acting on generational issues is key to managing talent within an organization.
"Leaders need to harness the collective power of all their talent and invest in having the generations work together for maximum contribution and productivity," McGovern said.
The survey includes responses from 172 senior leaders and HR professionals in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts, representing 143 organizations.
