Medway Co-operative Bank is changing its name on Jan. 1, 2009, to Charles River Bank, according to John S. Hamilton, the bank's president and CEO.
The new name reflects the 93-year-old institution's growth into new communities like Bellingham and Mendon, and its strategic plans to keep growing into other communities, most of which are along the Charles River, he said.
"This much better defines us, and the Charles River touches all of these communities and is such an easily identifiable part of them," Hamilton said.
The bank also has a new logo, although it is similar in shape to its existing diamond logo. It will have one green layer with several blue layers resembling water instead of the red diamond with a cursive M inside it.
Hamilton said he came up with the idea about four years ago, and this past year the board of directors suggested it would be a good time to change the name.
