The former CFO of the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard turned herself in to authorities after being indicted for allegedly embezzling more than $1.3 million from the museum.
Peggy Kempton, 53, of Hollis, N.H., faces larceny, fraudulent credit card use and false entries in corporate books charges for allegedly stealing money from the museum between January 2002 and February 2008.
State Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office began investigating the allegations against Kempton after the museum filed a complaint in September 2008.
The complaint argues that Kempton stole from the museum to cover $1.3 million in purchases she and her children made using 14 different credit cards, one of which was in the name of a co-worker who had no knowledge of the card’s existence.
Kempton pleaded not guilty to the charges.
