SAKTHIKUMAR AMBADY, DONALD R. BROWN III, SHAWN C. BURDETTE, JAMES COCOLA, ROBERT E. DEMPSKI JR., N. AARON DESKINS, JENNIFER DEWINTER, BETHEL EDDY, ELEANOR LOIACONO, YITZHAK MENDELSON, DAVID SPANAGEL, BERK SUNAR, ERKAN TÜZEL, LUIS VIDALI, JOANN WHITEFLEET-SMITH and ZHEYANG WU were all promoted in academic rank at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Promoted to associate teaching professor: Ambady, biomedical engineering; and Whitefleet-Smith, biology and biotechnology. Promoted to full professor: Brown, electrical and computer engineering; Loiacono, management; and Mendelson, biomedical engineering. The following were awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor: Burdette, chemistry and biochemistry; Cocola, humanities and arts; Dempski, chemistry and biochemistry; Deskins, chemical engineering; DeWinter, humanities and arts; Eddy, humanities and arts; Spanagel, humanities and arts; Sunar, electrical and computer engineering; Tüzel, physics; Vidali, biology and biotechnology; and Wu, mathematical sciences.
JACOB KOJALO was hired as a commercial lender and senior vice president at Rollstone Bank & Trust, and will be working primarily out of the Worcester office. He has over 30 years of commercial lending experience. Kojalo, of West Boylston, is a graduate of Assumption College and earned an MBA from Clark University.
GEORGE W. BUTLER was hired by Bryley Systems Inc., an IT services provider in Hudson. He was most recently a systems network engineer for Baesis Inc. of Northborough. Butler is a graduate of Nathaniel Hawthorne College in Antrim, N.H., and of Lesley University, where he earned a master's degree in applied management.
KATHRYN WELDON was named a home loan specialist for Fidelity Bank, and will be based in the Gardner office. She joined the bank in 2013 after working as an outside home loan specialist, a business development specialist and a Realtor. She received a bachelor's degree with a concentration in hospitality marketing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
CHRISTOPHER OLDHAM and RICHARD GILFOY, members of the senior executive team at Maynard-based construction and design firm JM Coull, will be joining president and owner Andrew Coull as co-owners. Oldham, chief operations officer, joined the firm in 1993. Gilfoy, chief financial officer, joined in 2013.
Also at JM Coull, EVELYN WENDELL was hired as a project manager. She has two decades of experience in the construction industry, including time at Legion Construction in Chelmsford and JBM General Contractors Inc., in Burlington, as a project manager. Wendell is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Urologist DR. ROBERT CHERRY was hired by Harrington Physician Services of Charlton, part of Harrington HealthCare System. He will see patients in Charlton, Webster and Spencer locations. Cherry, a Charlton resident, earned his medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans.
ANDREW E. ZELMAN was hired as a senior vice president of niche lending markets at MutualOne Bank in Southborough. He was most recently senior vice president and commercial relationship officer with Avidia Bank. Zelman is a graduate of Framingham State University.
JOHN P. GWOZDZ was promoted to senior landscape architect by Meridian Associates of Westborough. He's been with the firm for 10 years. Gwozdz holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in landscape architecture.
CHRIS CAWLEY of Milford was hired as a systems engineer at TECH Advisors in Boston. He was previously a technician at Staples. Cawley has a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Southern Maine.
DR. CHRISTIAN M. CARROLL, an integrative chiropractor, was hired by Groton Wellness. He is also a holistic physician and has experience with internal medicine, functional physiology and rehab, homeopathy and nutrition. Carroll holds a doctor of chiropractic degree from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill.
MIRIAM HYDER was appointed chair of Worcester Local First. She is marketing manager at Ed Hyder's Mediterranean Marketplace in Worcester. Worcester Local First is a network of local, independent city businesses.
KENNETH J. BATES was appointed president and CEO of The Bridge of Central Massachusetts in Worcester, which serves those with mental health challenges, developmental disabilities and other needs. The role was previously occupied by Barent Walsh, executive director, who is stepping into the position of executive director emeritus and senior clinical consultant. Bates had been executive director of new business and financial growth at Commonwealth Medicine at UMass Medical School. The Worcester native and graduate of both Assumption College and Worcester State University previously worked as vice president of behavioral health at Advocates in Framingham and as director of outpatient services at Spectrum Health Systems.
MARIA ROCKWELL, DONNA TRUEX and DAVID VIENS were elected partners at Worcester-based law firm Bowditch & Dewey. Rockwell concentrates her practice in probate law and domestic relations, as well as all aspects of civil appeals. The graduate of Providence College earned her law degree from Suffolk University Law School. Truex focuses on land use and real estate development. She is a graduate of Bentley University and received her law degree from Western New England College in Springfield. Viens focuses on business and commercial litigation, and defending clients in high-exposure tort cases. He's a graduate of the University of Rochester and Suffolk Law School.
JEFFREY B. LOCKE, PETER P. ROVEZZI and VERONIKA TOVANYAN were all promoted to vice presidents at Worcester-based Bay State Savings Bank. Locke, of Holden, has been assistant vice president and manager of the Grafton Street branch for eight years. Rovezzi, of Oxford, has worked as an assistant vice president and branch manager of the Eastern Avenue branch. Toyanyan, of Worcester, has been assistant vice president and Holden branch manager for 10 years.
DAN LAWRENCE was named director of engineering and planning at Aquarion Water Co. in Oxford. He was formerly a consultant for Weston and Sampson, where he worked for 17 years. Aquarion is the public water supply company for Oxford and Millbury.
PHILIP CYR was named chief operating officer at the Longden Co. of Hudson, which designs and installs access flooring systems, server rooms and cleanrooms. Cyr holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
SONIA PABLEY and MARY FRANDSEN were hired by Big Brother Big Sister of Central Mass./MetroWest, based in Worcester. Pabley is assistant director of marketing and special events. Formerly a literary agent in Manhattan, she's a graduate of Columbia University. Frandsen is a development officer for the nonprofit. The Worcester resident holds a master's degree in nonprofit management from Worcester State University.
CHRISTOPHER EGAN was named chairman of the board of directors for The Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, the nation's oldest child service agency. He is president and founding member of Westborough-based Carruth Capital LLC. He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master's in public administration from Harvard.
PAM KOZLIK was promoted by North Brookfield Savings Bank from Belchertown branch manager to commercial credit analyst assistant. The Ware resident holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Western New England University.
