What’s your biggest worry as a business executive?

Making sure we provide the best IT security services for our customers. Information security threats are ever changing and we need to make sure our knife stays sharpened at all times to make sure our customers stay ahead of the curve.

The second biggest worry it to make sure our employees are well taken care of (that is not only compensation but providing opportunities for growth and projects that challenge). I think we have been successful so far!

What could your local city/town leaders do to help your business?

Keep government small and agile, letting business both large and small participate in the market through competition. Allowing organization to thrive the way our country was meant to. Keep mandates to a minimum as well. Punish the ones who don’t follow the rules but don’t punish everyone.

What could state or federal leaders do to help your business?

Stay out of it...Lower taxes and keep government programs to a minimum. Many programs that are on the hill right now will put many businesses (small especially) out of business. They don’t seem to care. I have written and asked on numerous occasions for them to stop the intrusiveness into our lives. They seem to think they are entitled. I think term limits and tort reform could help everyone’s business. Make people accountable, both liberal and conservatives.

What do you love about your work?

I have had my company since 1993, we sold it in 1997 and I bought it back in 1999. For the last 10 years we’ve had wonderful growth opportunities, not only with our service offerings for our customers but the people I work with, many whom have been on board since 1999. I am very lucky to have such a great group of people to work with and call friends.

I also love what we do. IT Security itself is always changing and we help our customers not only get secure but stay secure through our proven Four E Methodology; Evaluate (what are you trying to protect and poke holes at it), Establish (a security roadmap for remediation), Educate (your employees are your weakest link) and Enforce (security is all about vigilance).

And of course we have wonderful customers!

What’s your outlook for 2010?

2010 projections look good. Just recently we decided to open an office in Texas. We will hit the ground running in that market as of Jan. 4, 2010.

We also are opening a small- to mid-size banking division in 2010. I think it is looking great.

As I said, threats are there. You may not see huge virus outbreaks like Nimda or Melissa, but the bad guys are getting worse because now they don’t want you to know they are there!

Did I mention the new state law regarding data security? We have set up a whole risk assessment program to accommodate the regulation. But remember, just because you have your compliant check off boxes completed, that doesn’t mean your data is secure. Security is vigilance — that is what I see in 2010.
