Medway-based Cybex International, which manufactures exercise equipment, said it was awarded two patents for exercise machines, following court appeals.
Patents were awarded for the Cybex Eagle Row and the Cybex Bravo All-in-One machines, the company said. The first patent for the Eagle Row was filed in March 2003, according to the company, and issued Jan. 13 of this year, following a lengthy appeals process in a federal circuit court of appeals. The second patent, for features of the Bravo All-in-One, was awarded Jan. 29 after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s ruled that the machine is unique.
According to Cybex, the court decision on the Eagle Row machine has changed precedent for how future Cybex patent applications will be treated.
“These two patents represent our dedication to the development of state-of-the-art technology for our elite products, and the ruling by the court of appeals protects that intellectual property,” said Ray Giannelli, senior vice president of research and development at Cybex.
