MathWorks launches new fluid system simulation product

Natick manufacturer MathWorks on Tuesday announced new fluid system modeling capabilities within its Simscape product line.

The new Simscape Fluids system provides libraries of components, including heat exchangers, pipes and valves, for simulating and modeling thermal liquid systems. Engineers working with complex fluid systems -- like water heating systems in buildings or liquid cooling systems in engines -- can use it to build acausal models of fluid systems, and integrate those models with other MathWorks products, like block diagrams in Simulink, state machines in Stateflow and other functions of its MATLAB software.

Allowing for simulation of the entire system at once makes tasks like optimizing system-level performance and designing control systems sleeker and more efficient, and allows for earlier detection of integration issues, according to the company.
