MathWorks commits $25M to Mass Audubon

Natick-based software company MathWorks will donate $25 million over seven years to nature conservation organization Mass Audubon. It is the largest programmatic gift received by the organization in its 127-year history.

MathWorks will give $7 million in year one and $3 million each year for the remaining six years. The gift will help the Lincoln-based organization to reach its goal of protecting 30% of the land in Massachusetts by 2032, according to a Thursday press release from Mass Audubon.

“This extraordinary commitment to protecting the nature of Massachusetts is nothing short of
transformative, and we are forever grateful for MathWorks’ overwhelming generosity,” Mass Audubon President David O’Neill said in the press release.  “It’s so heartening to see a world-renowned company like MathWorks prioritize the natural world, and we are honored they are entrusting us to carry out such important work.”

Mass Audubon is the largest nature-based conservation organization in New England, supported by 160,000 members according to the press release.

MathWorks is the fifth largest employer in Central Massachusetts with 3,500 employees locally and 6,000 worldwide, according to the WBJ Research Department.
