Natick-based MathWorks is planning to add a four-story 209,147-square-foot building to its Lakeside Campus and to demolish a nearby office building for parking.
A Sept. 20 letter from Worcester law firm Bowditch & Dewey Partner Katherine Garrahan to the Natick Planning Board says MathWorks projected needs for office space is expected to exceed what the existing three office buildings at the site, necessitating the proposed fourth building and a one-story connector building
Because the new building will be constructed on part of an existing parking lot, MathWorks is seeking to compensate for the lost parking capacity by razing a neighboring five-story, 107,000-square-foot office building at 24 Superior Drive on a 4.5-acre plot the company purchased in June 2022 for $17.6 million, according to Natick property records.
MathWorks declined to comment on the expansion when asked by WBJ. The matter will be addressed by the Natick planning board at its Oct. 25 meeting.
MathWorks is the fifth largest employer in Central Massachusetts with 3,500 employees locally and 6,000 worldwide, according to the WBJ Research Department.
