MassHousing awards $290,000 for sober housing

The Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency (MassHousing) has awarded $290,000 to support sober housing programs in Worcester, Boston, Dartmouth and Norton, the quasi-public affordable housing agency announced Wednesday.

The Worcester grant of $65,000 will pay to increase energy efficiency using solar power in 12 units of affordable housing owned by Dismas House of Massachusetts Inc., an organization that provides transitional housing to former inmates.

The grants come from the Center for Community Recovery Innovations Inc., a non-profit subsidiary of MassHousing that supports nonprofits that offer affordable sober housing to recovering substance abusers in the Bay State. The program has awarded $7 million in grants to date, according to MassHousing.
