A Southbridge cannabis company founded by descendants of World War II General George Patton has debuted a new THC-infused cannabis oral pouch inspired by Zyn and other nicotine-infused dip pouches, which the company says is the first of its kind in Massachusetts.
Green Meadows, a cannabis company with locations in Southbridge and Fitchburg and which is working to open a third dispensary in Marlborough, teamed up with Colorado-based firm JuanaDips to launch the product, which it says offers a new way to consume the substance first legalized for adult-use by Massachusetts voters in 2016.
"Our mission is to make cannabis accessible and enjoyable for everyone, and JuanaDips is a perfect fit for this vision," Chris Zawacki, co-founder and CEO of Green Meadows, said in a Jan. 8 press release announcing the launch of the product. "These pouches introduce a new and unique delivery system, combining innovative technology with the finest ingredients, offering Massachusetts consumers a unique and memorable cannabis experience."
Green Meadows says the product is similar to Zyn, a Swedish brand of oral pouches made from fiber infused with nicotine extracted from tobacco leaves.
Since its launch in 2016, Zyn’s manufacturer claims the product is safer than traditional tobacco products, although public health officials have accused the brand of marketing to children and downplaying health risks, according to reporting from CNN.
Green Meadow’s product, which does not contain nicotine, aims to provide a discrete way for adults to consume cannabis without smoking, according to the press release. The product is debuting in Massachusetts with a spearmint flavor, available in doses of 2.5 milligrams per pouch or 5 milligrams per pouch, with products with different flavors and dosing levels to come later.
