MassDevelopment to provide $2.15M in collaborative workspace funding

The Gov. Charlie Baker Administration will provide more than $2.15 million in funding for its MassDevelopment Collaborative Workspace Program grants to help spur job creation and business formation.
In the prior two rounds of grants, the program has provided $3 million in funding to more than 50 organizations for the development of collaborative workspaces.
This round includes $1.5 million in state funding and $655,000 from the Barr Foundation, the latter of which is the second installment of a three-year, $1.9M grant to the program. The partnership with the Barr Foundation broadens the program to reach the creative sector to help support and grow innovation in local communities.
The program, founded in 2016, is intended to enable investments in community-based innovation infrastructure to provide entrepreneurs across the state with resources to start a business.
“Funding awarded through the Collaborative Workspace Program has helped advance community-based innovation and entrepreneurship in cities and towns across the Commonwealth,” said MassDevelopment President and CEO Lauren Liss. “Thanks to continued support from the Baker-Polito Administration and the Barr Foundation, MassDevelopment is thrilled to kick off a third round of grants that will provide even more organizations with the resources they need to create or enhance collaborative workspaces in their community.”
Proposals are due to MassDevelopment by 5 p.m. on July 20. Funding decisions will be announced in September.
