Despite gains of 7,500 jobs in December, Bay State unemployment ticked up to 6.7 percent, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
That's compared an unemployment rate of 6.6 percent in November and a revised job loss for the month of 3,200.
Over the year, unemployment dropped two-tenths of a percentage point, from 6.9 percent in December 2011.
Total jobs in Massachusetts reached 3,263,400 in December, reflecting a net gain of 51,600 jobs in 2012.
The largest gains in December were in education and health services (3,800) and leisure and hospitality (3,200). Over the year, education and health services gained 7,300 jobs, growing 1.1 percent, while leisure and hospitality added 6,300 jobs, growing 2 percent.
Meanwhile, construction added 1,400 jobs in December, up 0.3 percent for the year. Manufacturing saw gains of 800 jobs in December, but lost 0.4 percent of its workforce over the year.
The biggest losses were in trade, transportation and utilities (1,100) in December, although the sector added 8,100 over the year. Professional, scientific and business services lost 1,000 jobs for the month, but had major growth of 22,800 jobs over the year, expanding the sector by 4.8 percent.
