Mass. home sales slightly higher in March
Single-family home sales in Massachusetts rose almost 1 percent in March compared with a year earlier, according to a report Tuesday from The Warren Group. There were 2,778 single-family homes sold statewide in March, compared with 2,754 in March 2014.
Also, home sales in the entire first quarter were up 1.3 percent compared with last year’s first quarter.
Prices were slightly higher, too, for the state. The median sales price of a single-family home in March increased 0.76 percent, from $315,000 a year earlier to $317,400. It was the sixth consecutive month of year-over-year increases in the median sale price in Massachsuetts.
Across the state, The Warren Group said, the first-quarter median selling price was $317,500, a 4.0 percent increase from $305,000 in the first quarter of 2014.
"These homes were shopped and deals signed during January and some in February, just as the snowstorms were beginning to roll in," Timothy M. Warren Jr., CEO of The Warren Group, said. "This indicates that there are motivated buyers and sellers out there, and they are both eager to make deals happen. The continued limited supply keeps the market from showing substantial improvement."
Worcester County in March followed the statewide trend on number of homes sold, but not on the direction of median price. There were 412 homes sold in March 2015; 401 in March 2014. The median price was $225,000 in March 2015, a decline from March 2014’s $232,500.
As for Middlesex County, sales fell from March 2014’s 583 homes to last March’s 571. Prices, meanwhile, rose from March 2014’s median of $400,000 to last March’s median of $427,000.
