Massachusetts residents bought 7,365 hybrid vehicles in 2006, helping place the Commonwealth on a list of theĀ Top 10 Hybrid States, according to a report from R.L. Polk & Co., an automotive research firm.
With a 2.9 percent share of hybrid vehicle volume in the U.S., Massachusetts was ranked number nine, while California – with a 26.5 percent market share – holds the top spot.
Other states with a strong appetite for hybrid cars are: Florida, Texas, New York, Virginia, Illinois, Washington, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The Boston metro area also ranked number five on a list of total new hybrid registrations in 2006.
