According to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD), which released state jobs numbers for September and October delayed by the partial shutdown of the federal government, the Bay State added 9,100 jobs in October, compared with 9,400 in September, when the unemployment rate was 7.1 percent.
Over the last 12 months, the unemployment rate has risen half of a percentage point, the state said.
The biggest industry gains in October came in leisure and hospitality (9,300 additional jobs); trade, transportation and utilities (2,500); education and health services (1,900); and construction (1,300), all of which have seen net gains over the year.
Meanwhile, manufacturing took a hit with the loss of 1,400 jobs last month. The sector is down 4,300 jobs over the year.
The state and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also revised jobs numbers for August to show a gain of 6,000 jobs, while the unemployment rate was unchanged from July at 7.2 percent. The state initially said Massachusetts added nearly 7,500 jobs in August.
