The Massachusetts job market has continued to stay warm as the state added 3,700 jobs in June, according to the Patrick administration.
Additionally, the commonwealth’s unemployment rate hit a six-year low as it nudged down 0.1 percent from May to 5.5 percent.
The upturn in jobs was driven by a gain of 6,000 jobs the health and education sector, one of the largest employment bases in Central Massachusetts. For the year, more than 20,000 jobs have been added state-wide in health and education.
On a less bright note, manufacturing lost 1,100 jobs, a dip of 0.4 percent compared to May. The drop is particularly noteworthy since the state had lost just 500 manufacturing jobs between January and May.
Since June 2013, Massachusetts has added 48,900 jobs; with 49,400 jobs gained in the private sector and 500 jobs lost in the public sector. The total unemployment rate was down 1.6 percent from last year’s rate of 7.1 percent.
