The Regal Theatres at the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough and the Charles River Center in Bellingham are slated to open as soon as April 9.
The return of the cinemas, which the company announced Tuesday, will add to an incremental return of parts of a post-pandemic economy, including restaurants able to have some musical performances and stadiums allowed to have fans for games in reduced capacities.
The Regal theaters in Bellingham and Marlborough closed for months, with the future of the company in question last fall as it fought off bankruptcy. Some Regal theaters will reopen as soon as April 2, and others in subsequent Fridays, either April 9 or April 16, the company said.
Other Central Massachusetts theaters are in various stages of operations a year into the pandemic. Most quickly closed last March and remained largely closed since then because of state operating guidelines.
The AMC theater in Framingham is open Fridays through Sundays, with plans to expand to all days on April 19. Cinemagic, a small chain with a location in Sturbridge, went out of business in February. An IMAX at a Jordan's Furniture store in Framingham remains closed until further notice. Of the area's two Showcase cinemas, the Blackstone Valley 14 Cinema de Lux in Millbury has reopened. The Showcase in Worcester has not.
Among independent theaters, The Strand Theatre in Clinton has said it hopes to open at some point in April. Elm Draught House in Millbury, which remained open for limited hours for take-out food and raised more than $27,000 through an online fundraiser to stay afloat, also plans to reopen, with an undetermined date. West Boylston Cinema remains closed.
