The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Reactive Innovations LLC of Littleton a $225,000 grant to commercialize a water chlorination unit to produce clean drinking water in developing countries.
Reactive is one of just eight companies nationwide awarded a total of $1.8 million in such grants.
The Reactive process, which uses electrochemical reactor technology as a low-cost way to chlorinate water in small systems, is already being tested in Puerto Rico.
Four other Massachusetts companies also received grants: Johansson Industries of Beverly, EIC Laboratories of Norwood, Agiltron of Woburn and Aerodyne Research of Billerica.
