Five Central Massachusetts cities will receive a total of $2.9 million in energy grants under the Federal Recovery Act.
The funds come in block grants that communities can use for energy efficiency and conservation efforts. They will allow for investment in municipal facilities, and the improvement efforts are expected to create jobs.
Altogether, Massachusetts is getting $42.2 million in energy grants. That includes $4.8 million for the state energy office, with the rest going to specific cities.
Worcester will receive $1.7 million, Framingham $657,000, Marlborough $178,000, Leominster $175,000 and Fitchburg $168,000.
